What influenced my interest in horticulture?
When I was quite young, maybe 6 or 7 years old, I was playing in my grandmother’s backyard. I ran around the corner and came to an abrupt halt! There in front of me was the most beautiful baby blue delphinium!
My love of flowers grew when I was 12 years old. Mom gave me the encouragement and freedom to care for and plant the area around our back patio. Seeds for Zinnias and several 6-packs of Petunias were purchased. I went to work planting and soon added a honey locust tree to add some dappled shade to the patio. The flowers grew and blossomed, inviting hummingbird moths and bees. Oh how I loved to watch the wildlife attracted to the blossoms. I was hooked.
Years later when my husband and I purchased our first home, the landscaping and a garden were the first things addressed. Many things were learned in the process of the successes and failures of those yard and garden adventures.
My life has been enriched by flowers, trees and plants of all kinds. I hope yours has been too!
